New VW Eos In Depth.

After more than one million VW convertibles of the Beetle, Karmann Ghia, Golf and New Beetle series, the new Eos takes off to a flying start in May 2006. As the first standard automobile world wide the four-seater is equipped with a five piece convertible, sliding and coupe roof (CSC-roof).

Re: New VW Eos In Depth.

I've been pretty positive about the new Passat and Jetta, but this is leaving me somewhat cold.

Nice that VW finally has a coupe/cabrio back in its stable - one that's not a stratospherically priced vanity project, as was once planned. I'm just left wishing that VW styled the sides of this thing a bit more. There's alot of flat surface around the flanks of this car that's just sitting there as though it were a French car.

What do you guys think?

Re: New VW Eos In Depth.

A nice package overwhelmingly saturated in femininity. I had the chance to view it and sit in at the L.A. show at the beginning of the year, it looks nice in person but at the same time it's a car I'd never be caught dead in. The interior is suprisingly roomy w/ typical VW build quality. It is a drop top, so it doesn't come as a susprise that it's a feminine design, these cars are purchased by more women than men. Take a look at the drivers of the VW Beetle convertible... they're all women.

Re: New VW Eos In Depth.

Funny. This was destined to be a chick car, but did VW have to make it so painfully ovbious with those press photos? I mean come on:

Re: New VW Eos In Depth.

That is the market for this car, is it not?

I remember the Golf cab., and almost every driver I saw for that car was a female. Ljkewise for the Beetle convertible.

Re: New VW Eos In Depth.

It is pretty obvious that VW has become a chick brand with the exception--which some would argue not to be true--of the GTI/GOLF.

This car I saw here in South Florida just a few months ago driving around. I didn't have my camera so I was very angry at the fact that I could not provide any real world pictures. Nevertheless, I was not impressed at all. Sometimes cars, especially BMW's, look better in person than on pictures, but this VW does not share that luck. It actually looks better on pictures than in person.

I don't like the rear; what it looks like with the tops up; and the overall bland design.

Like OSNA said, good for VW to finally have a car like this on the line up. Maybe the next one will be nicer, tougher, and manlier.

I doubt it, VW's have always been the more sterilized German car from a looks perspective from a male point of view.

Besides the Golf hot hatches(GTI/R cars), the proposed mid engined roadster is about as manly a VW will ever get, IMO, and that idea is constantly on/off again w/ the VW board. So basically it comes down to this; if you're a dude(us), buy an Audi, if you're a chick, buy a Vee Dub. This is simply my opinion.

Re: New VW Eos In Depth.

Well it's OK - but ironically, I still think the original VW Golf Karmann cabriolet is 10 times better looking and much cooler.

The original Golf is from the days when VW was genuinely cool - but with "try-hard" models like The Beetle and this completely uninspiring new Eos, I don't see anything particularly special about the VW brand anymore - the Daihatsu Kopen and Mini Cooper have more going for them in terms of "coolness"
