2008 VW Golf GTI Pirelli Edition 230Hp

25 years after the famed Pirelli-Golf GTI version came out in May 1983 VW presented its successor in the form of the fifth generation Golf GTI at the VW GTI meeting, “Wörthersee 2007”.

Conspicuously, this is VW Group’s third world premiere at the GTI fest after the 650Hp Golf

Back to the limited edition Pirelli version is based on the Golf GTI

While the GTI Pirelli retains the bodykit of the “Edition 30”, it features a few unique elements. Starting of course with the 225/40 Pirelli P-Zero tires and the 5-spoke titanium coloured 18’’ Pirelli rims. The only other exterior add on is the Pirelli logo on the back door.

In the interior, the first things you notice are the bass-relief seat surfaces with the eye-popping Pirelli tire tread design.
As expected, you get your usual Pirelli logos here and there.

According to VW, the Pirelli GTI will be available from this September in four colours- bright yellow, silver, black pearl & blue graphite.

Re: 2008 VW Golf GTI Pirelli Edition 230Hp

Doesn't look much different from a regular GTI, special paint color aside. I also hear that the regular GTI is going to get the 230 hp 2.0T for MY08 anyway.

Re: 2008 VW Golf GTI Pirelli Edition 230Hp

I can see the 230bhp 2.0T on tap for use in a TT 2.0T Quattro. The horsepower boost would aid in compensation for the increase in weight of adding on Quattro.

Re: 2008 VW Golf GTI Pirelli Edition 230Hp

The move to the 230 hp (circa 170 kW) output of the 2.0T FSI in VW's is logical and almost a dead cert in my opinion. They need to do this in order to keep the GTI's on-paper competitiveness on a par with more powerful offerings from Renault, Ford, Opel and even from within the group, SEAT.

Further, the launch of the new 1.8 TFSI engine in the Audi A3 also necessitates that the Audi 2.0T gets a bit of a boost too in order to better differentiate it from its lesser sibling.
