An estimated 0-to-60-mph time of 7.4 seconds demonstrates the 5249-pound truck's get-up-and-go, but, nevertheless, the GL feels slow-and it certainly won't get any livelier when you ask it to pull 7500 pounds, its maximum tow rating. However, a more powerful variant, the GL550, will be released in about a year if the GL450 sells well. Wisely, Mercedes plans no AMG version. Sometimes I wonder what these guys are smoking. I can't wait to hear their review on the GL320 CDI Bluetec... *sarcasm* Is someone really going to care about a 0-60 time when he is towing a boat? Do they really care how a fully laden GL-Class towing a boat will "handle on the track"? Furthermore, I don't see what is "so bad" about a 7.4 0-60 time. That's pretty darn good for any kind of SUV, especially a behemoth like the GL-Class. I think most GL450 buyers will be more than satisfied with the performance. And if they aren't, they can get the GL550. IMO, the AMG GL-Class is a mistake. In these times, we need to start focusing on efficiency. And while there is a small market for an AMG GL-Class, it remains nothing more than a POINTLESS vehicle, just like the G55 AMG and ML63 AMG. If I want a sports car, I'll buy a sports car, not a heavy SUV. Anyway, my pick of the GL bunch is the GL320 CDI hands down. Realistic everyday performance and fuel economy. |

I am no fan of the G55, ML63, R63 and the upcoming GL63 AMG. Fun to talk about and perhaps testdrive, but I'd never want to own one. I hate visiting the gas station every 5 minutes. ![]() | |
