Mercedes-Benz Debuts the GL550 for the U.S. Market

It gets the grille and star treatment from the GL430 Bluetec Concept! A Bling move for the U.S. market no doubt!

It appears that most of the options of the GL450 are standard along with the 21 inch wheels and running boards in the above pics. Nice! Someone in Jersey has been listening to the Blinger Crowd. This thing is going to be a hit if gas prices don't sky-rocket this summer. I love it!

Looks awesome with the bigger grill!

I always wondered why they didn't start making this car with the new V8, seemed a bit pointless!

The only car left to get the new V8 is the CLS, right?

No, the CLS550 has been on sale here for a while now. The ones left with the old 5.0L V8 are the R500 and G500. I read somewhere that the G550 comes this fall, not sure about the R. The way the R sells I doubt they want to just throw a new engine in it, they're likely to facelift it early along with the new V8.

Re: Mercedes-Benz Debuts the GL550 for the U.S. Market

Mercedes-Benz didn’t exactly “unveil” the new 2008 GL 550 this morning. In fact it was just sitting there at the back of the stand without anyone really noticing. Well we noticed because this latest version of Mercedes largest SUV has a 5.5-liter, 382 hp V8 with 391 lb.-ft. of torque linked to a 7 speed transmission. That means it can tow 7500 lbs and it means the GL 550 that will compete most closely with luxury SUV’s like the Cadillac Escalade. And speaking of ‘Slade competition, this new GL comes with 21-inch wheels and a big bold grill with a Mercedes three pointed star that must be about 8-inches in diameter. This might be the blingiest Benz SUV yet. —Ben Stewart

This GL550 looks better and better with every photo!

I really wish people would not associate the brand "Mercedes Benz" with the term "bling" ever. Kind of sad...

Well, there's nothing you can do about it. Every luxury car is more or less 'bling' these days...

IMO it's too BIG! The star looks bigger than a human head. The regular grille would do just fine.
