Senna gets out of his car in a race and rescues crashed Eric Comas

I had never heard about this incident before I saw it on youtube. Another factor that makes Senna a true hero!

When Senna had his fatal crash at Imola in 94 Comas was quickly there to repay him. Unfourtunatly there was nothing he could do.

Re: Senna gets out of his car in a race and rescues crashed Eric Comas

Great driver and great man! One of the first F1 races I watched was '93 European Grand Prix at Donington. I still consider it the best drive I have ever seen. I really hoped that Schu retired before he broke the record of 65 poles by Senna. Even though the Senna Foundation does great work and ensures the Senna name lives on, I would love to see his nephew race in F1.

Who is that driver who slowed down at the end of the video?

Here is another video of a heroic effort to save a fellow racer. I don't know if you've seen it before, Zonda, but it is graphic. It is a clip of David Purley trying to rescue his teammate, Roger Williamson, before he burned to death. A sad, preventable fatality, but the image of Purley standing in a fireball is unforgettable.

Some (as you) might think so, but i don't. What you see in this video you didn't see ever and you probably won't! Fortunately, i guess... His personality and his driving skills made him so great, not his death, Giannis...

What i want to say, is that Senna, died at the best era he could, which makes his star shine even more and for more time.

Just think what would happen if Senna didn't die. He would win more races and then retire and live a peaceful life. Just like what Schumi is gonna do (i hope). He has many records, he is a star, but sooner or later his star will rustle.

The same happens with Maradona. You know him. He was a legend when it comes to football. But when the whole story with the drugs blew, suddently he was nothing. Who cares about Maradona now? Well, i don't. But if he died when he was a star, nothing else would have happend and his star would shine and shine and shine for ever.

And most artist receive their respect after death. Just think of Bethoveen, Bach, Mozart, and the most painters!

Re: Senna gets out of his car in a race and rescues crashed Eric Comas

I think Giannis does have a point. Senna was a legendary driver for his talent and achievements, but his death on the track transformed him. He, much like the great Jim Clark, has a special place in motor racing lore. There is a certain romance, glory that comes from being killed on the track, but I think Senna was already a legend before his death. He was great man. He grew up wealthy and earned great wealth himself, but he always embraced the responsibility of being wealthy in a poor country.

I have read that Senna would have quit racing if he had won 5 World Championships. He had too much respect for Fangio to break the great man's record.

There is a great video on youtube of Senna driving a NSX around Suzuka. A camera shows his footwork inside the car. He blips the gas when he is making a turn. It's a form of human traction control and it was just awesome.

I've seen that vid before you said it and for some reason I studied his footwork as well:P

I used to have a great video of Tiff driving a 360 Modena and I used to watch it all the time just to see his excellent footwork, how he shifted and wressled the steering wheel at the same time. I really enjoy watching great driving!

I just ended watching a vid where Kimi does a lap at Spa to study his driving. Studying where he could've turned in/later, given slightly more gas, was too aggressive etc. I really want to become a good driver and I think studying driving helps at least a little.
