 | Kimi to debut new Mercedes V8 McLaren are set to race Mercedes' latest V8 engine at the Nurburgring, after Juan Pablo Montoya tested it successfully on Wednesday st Silverstone. "Auto Motor Und Sport said the unit does not boast higher revs or horse power, but more of the engine's existing potential - up to 19,700 rpm - can be used in the Grand Prix. "We're missing three or four tenths to Renault," McLaren CEO Whitmarsh commented. The new engine could bridge the gap to within two tenths. Although Montoya did the V8 honours on Wednesday, only team-mate - Kimi Raikkonen - will benefit from the first new upgrade in next Sunday's Grand Prix in Germany. Montoya, in the middle of his two-race cycle, is due to get a fresh engine for the subsequent Spanish race." E.A. Source GMM |
