Garry Paffett and Pedro de la Rosa will be piloting the ridiculously awesome orange MP4-20 you see pictured above prior to the launch of the new Team McLaren Mercedes livery in mid-February. The orange livery is synonymous with the origins of McLaren, as the team ran its Formula One and CAN-AM racers in the color for a number of years starting with the M5A in 1968. This week marks the start of a 28 day on-track testing regimen for the team, which leads up to opening race of the 2006 World Championship, the Bahrain Grand Prix, on Sunday 12th March. ![]() ![]() | Re: Update On The McLaren Mercedes F1 Team Noooo! What happended to the silver arrows? The black and silver livery was the best. Is this because of the switch from West to Johnnie Walker. Their advertising is bairly taking up any any space and is hardly a contributor as far as paint design. Edit: Whoops didn't see that bottom paragraph, but I'm still a bit distraught that West had to go even though it was an evil tobacco product. ![]() |

![]() | Re: Update On The McLaren Mercedes F1 Team from itv f1 ".........................The team used a similar orange makeover during its transition from Marlboro to West sponsorship in the winter of 1996/97. Speculation has indicated that the Vodafone deal may be brought forward to '06, but would depend on the terms of the telecommunications company's extrication process from its current Ferrari agreement. McLaren is set to finalise its official 2006 livery in the coming weeks and confirmed that it intends to run its new MP4-21 "some time in January". so they are about to hopefully go red and silver, they will keep silver definitely cuz mercedes like own half of them lol |

Paffett finished the day in thirteenth position. For more info, you can check out the full press release below. OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE F1 Test: Jerez, Day 1 Jerez, Jan 12, 2006 Pedro de la Rosa was joined at the Circuit de Jerez by reigning DTM Champion Gary Paffett, who was testing for the first time since being announced as an official Team McLaren Mercedes test driver on 21st December 2005. Both drivers were running in interim MP4-20s, fitted with V10 engines. As scheduled the team is using the V10, because engine production is focused on the FO108S V8 for the MP4-21, which has different mountings from the one used in the MP4-20B, the team is using the V10. The V8 on track programme will be continued once the MP4-21 starts testing. By the end of the final test in December 2005, over 6,000kms had been covered by the V8 engine. The programme for the day, which will continue over the remainder of the week until Saturday, focused on tyre development work with Michelin. Pedro had a minor software problem on his initial installation lap, which was resolved immediately and he continued with his programme. Both cars ran for the rest of the day with no further electronic or mechanical issues. Pedro topped the timesheets, with Gary in 13th. The Team McLaren Mercedes drivers set times of 1m16.504 and 1m20.137 respectively, covering 167 laps and 740km in total today. Testing will continue in Jerez tomorrow with Pedro and Gary.
