| Formula One Record Hardest to Break Not asking who will break the records and when they will be broken. The question is simply which is hardest to break. Before anyone asks me if I am discrediting the two recent record-breaking rookie drivers, let me clarify that the only records included are cumulative records that a driver compiles over an entire career. Age-based records are not included. If you think this poll is stupid, fine! If you think it is pointless without including age-based records, great! No one has to respond, but if you do respond, all I ask is that you do so without preventing others from discussing the topic. 91 Wins - Average F1 career is 10-yr. so an average of 9 wins per yr. is needed, 2nd (Prost) and 3rd (Senna) in all-time wins F1 have 92 wins combined 7 Titles - It took nearly 50-years for the Fangio's 5 titles to be eclipsed. 68 Poles - It took Schumacher a lot more races than Senna to take this record 76 Fastest Laps - Total exceeds 2nd and 3rd in all-time fastest laps (Prost and Mansell) by five 256 Races - Barrichello is close, assuming no accidents or pink slips he should set the record, not sure if this should be included then 47.06% Winning Percentage - Senna and Prost had 25% career winning percentage, Schumacher retired with 36.4%. ** I was hoping that Senna would hold on to his 65 poles in the record book. | Re: Formula One Record Hardest to Break 47.06% Winning Percentage of Fangio, because he had the best car except for 1958. And having the best for your entire career, minus one year, is impossible these days, even more so than 7 WDC, IMO. |

Re: Formula One Record Hardest to Break Those are very tough records to beat, but if you manage to beat one, you'll most likely beat one of the other ones too.

Re: Formula One Record Hardest to Break Tough choice, but I voted 91 wins. How many races does Coulthard have, he must be getting close to that record soon? Edit, Coulthard has 219 races. Quite close. Last edited by Alfie; 06-21-2007 at 07:53 AM.

Re: Formula One Record Hardest to Break It is almost impossible to keep a more than 47% winning rate in the modern F1 era. There are just so many variables that can effect the car's performance, and regulations ( i am sure they don't have safety car back in the 1950s) which can have a direct effect on the outcome of the race. The top F1 teams are very closely matched so the chances for one driver to maintain a 47% winning rate is very very unlikely.

Re: Formula One Record Hardest to Break With 7 titles you can break every single record mentioned, except the one of Patrese... That, of course, if your car always performs like today's McLaren and depending how many years you stay in F1... ![]() ![]()

Re: Formula One Record Hardest to Break Very interesting topic 450SEL My vote goes to the 47% winning. Even MSC didn't brake this record. I guess the 256 races record can be "easily" won but not this!

Re: Formula One Record Hardest to Break I voted for the 91 wins. I believe the percentage is a difficult to beat, but on technical grounds is a bit weak. If we take Lewis Hamilton for example- he has had 7 F1 races in his career and has won 2 giving him a percentage of 28%. If Hamilton wins 6 more races this year and retires(which is very unlikely but within the realm of possibility) he will be at 58%. Better still, he wins the next 3 races and something terrible happens- that will be 50% race wins. All in all, I believe the 91 wins by Michael Schumacher is a daunting record. 450SEL, Just to be sure we are using the same metrics here, is % win only confined to Formula races?
