| Brake energy regeneration in F1 by 2009 ![]() Formula One is set for a dramatic change with the announcement today that a deal has been struck between two British engineering firms for the development of an energy recovering gearbox slated for introduction into F1 by 2009. The goal is to reduce the level of greenhouse gas emissions by recovering energy wasted during braking, and is part of FIA president Max Moseley’s dream to make F1 more cost-efficient, road relevant and environmentally friendly. | Re: Brake energy regeneration in F1 by 2009 Mind that BMW are VERY interested in "Green F1", and hoping the new "green" rules will be implied ASAP. That would push BMW EfficientDynamics R&D even further - bringing new & better solutions in serial automobile production. Not to mention special solutions for M-models. |

| Re: Brake energy regeneration in F1 by 2009 there is an unopened can of worms here if what i think this is, i.e. a system to collect the backward energy from braking, or in simpler words, when you brake the brakes are wasting energy such as heat, and the g force accelearation that results can be used in some method to create energy, but in the form of eelctricity, which can be stored in a battery will this mean smaller standard batterires, and the extra electicity needed comes from these systems or will it mean that the secondarty energy batetry will be coupled to the transmission essentially making these cars hbrids? |
