![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Flying BMW takes aim at the top two BMW Sauber is setting its sights on Ferrari and McLaren after its breakthrough performance in the Bahrain Grand Prix. Nick Heidfeld has now finished fourth in every race so far this year and put BMW into a comfortable third place in the constructors' championship. At Sakhir he was closer than ever to the lead pace – passing Fernando Alonso around the outside for fourth, and then staying within range of third-placed Kimi Raikkonen to the end of the race. Team boss Mario Theissen believes the performance was a major milestone in his team's short history. "For the first time, we were able to meet the speeds of the top teams over the entire distance of the race," he said. "This good result provides the entire team with a feeling of confidence and, at the same time, it gives us great motivation. "Everyone can feel it: We have the substance and the ability to focus on the top teams now." The team's immediate target is to finish on the podium for the first time in 2007. "Podium results remain our goal and we have come very close three times already," said Theissen. "During the four weeks before the start to the European season in Barcelona, we will continue to work hard in Munich and in Hinwil. "We are now looking forward to our first appearance in Europe full of optimism." Source = ITV F1 |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Flying BMW takes aim at the top two I was absolutely ecstatic when Hiedfield passed Alonso and ended up finishing 4th!! It finally feels like BMW has the magic formula needed to keep up with the top two... ..BUT... I remember the commentators saying that many of the teams had done a lot of testing at the Bahrain track. This leads me to believe that BMW had great data ready for the Bahrain race. That's great coz it shows that BMW does have what it take to run with the top two... but I wouldn't be overly optimistic about most future rounds because BMW haven't done the heavy testing they did at Bahrain. Nonetheless... last week was an important milestone for BMW... and FINALLY the BMW fans have something truely to look forward to!! The "White & Sky Blue propellors" is coming after the top two contenders!! :d |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Flying BMW takes aim at the top two BMW Sauber has finally solved a mechanical problem that severely hampered its pres-season test programme and the opening races of this year. "It is fixed," Team Principal Mario Theissen, referring to the recurring hydraulic flaw in its new seamless gearbox, told the Swiss newspaper Blick. The German said the problem was a materials defect from an external supplier. Backing Theissen's claim, Nick Heidfeld drove to a highly competitive fourth place in Bahrain last Sunday, with team-mate Robert Kubica sixth and finally finishing a race without a major mechanical problem. |
