Saab 9-1 Scoop: Swedes take a hit on the Audi A3 Saab has its eyes set on a new compact hatch to take on the likes of the BMW 1-Series and Audi A3. Swedish car magazine Teknikens Varld took on the assignment of “visualising” the 9-1 in the form of an artist's impression that borrows design cues from the Aero-X concept. Last year, Saab’s Managing Director Jan-Ake Jonsson gave an interview to the Swedish newspaper TT, where he not only confirmed the company’s plans for the 9-1 but he also revealed that it will be based on the same platform as the next-generation Opel Astra. That means the 9-1 will also use Astra’s engine range including the new 180Hp 1.6 Turbo and OPC’s 240Hp 2.0 Turbo. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Harry Plopper; 01-12-2007 at 05:18 AM.

Re: Saab 9-1 Scoop: Swedes take a hit on the Audi A3 Saab really need to make this car if they want to stay alive. If the production model looks like the one in the photo, i know i will want one

Re: Saab 9-1 Scoop: Swedes take a hit on the Audi A3 Indeed. Saab's lineup is comptely duff right now, despite the fact that there's plenty of fresh models in the family. If they have the balls, wisdom and wherewithal to follow through on a design like this there might be a flicker of light at the end of the tunnel.

Re: Saab 9-1 Scoop: Swedes take a hit on the Audi A3 I red this article about the 9-1 half week ago and i have to say that i like this car! Saab has to produce more than 2 models. This design is good and it has lines from the concept car Aero-X. /Audi

Saab's current lineup is competely duff right now because of GM. Saab needs something to set them apart, something like their variable compression ratio egnines. I am still waiting for GM to put in more funding and bring the engine to the market. GM need to make the Saab badge desirable, as well as improving product quality. People choose to buy a basic 320i or a C180K over a well equiped and cheaper Saab 9-3 because they want that badge, not becaues they want a better car. | |
