VW never invented or co-developed dual-clutches. That credit goes to frenchman Andre Kegresse, who invented the dual clutch 70 years ago for Citroen (who were the first to put them on their cars about 60 years ago, on a few demonstrative models since the solution viable untill recently).

Yeah I'm thinking that BMW, Mercedes and Porsche are going to do the usual German one-upmanship thing with their respective boxes. Knowing Mercedes theirs will have 10 gears, knowing BMW theirs will have 20 different modes (from compeition to grandma) and Porsches will be the simplest and likely the best overall.
