Re: SCOOP: Volvo XC70

It looks ok. Not the best looking car Volvo has designed.

Re: SCOOP: Volvo XC70

I love how pretty much everyone in here is down on Volvo...

I must say that after having driven the previous model for two days while my car was in the shop, it was a qutie pleasant experience. No, it wasn't a great handling car, but it did everything else quite well; rode comfortably, steering was secure (though artificial), and power delivery was more than adequate. Not to mention the interior materials were top shelf and the added utility of the extra cargo space wasn't bad either. I was also qutie fond of the looks and the elevated ride height that made going over potholes a cinch.

There are some elements of this new cars design that will take a little bit of getting use to, but in the end I think this car will fare qutie well because it will continue to deliver to the faithful, conservative Volvo buyer.

Re: SCOOP: Volvo XC70

I find the detailing - especially the emphasised brightwork - quite fussy. I have a strange sensation that the car looks overwrought and lacks the smoother execution of its competitors, the Audi allroad and Subaru Outback.

Something tells me that the stylists have tried to make the new XC70 come over all tough and well, it can't and doesn't.

These are urban lifestyle wagons with multi-road ability for that odd occasion. So beefing them up to look rugged is about as fruitful an exercise as cars like the Rover Streetwise...

Re: SCOOP: Volvo XC70

Normally I'm right there with you Martin, but in this case this Volvo is no worse in the "overwrought" category than the Audi Allroad is, IMO. Both of them are quite pointless IMO. The days of jacking up a car (without changing the body like on a true crossover) and addling body cladding to appear off-road ready, are over and done with. Why someone would want this or the Allroad over the XC90 or Q7 is beyond me. Their regular wagons will do the job if you want a "car".
