Ford to Pump $2.1 Billion into Jaguar

Ford is forking over $2.1 billion to fund a reorganization at Jaguar, several news organizations are reporting today. The big-money deal (finance geeks: it’s in - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER), many say, affirms Ford’s commitment to the struggling UK luxury marque, which has been hemorrhaging money, shedding staff and abandoning ambitious plans as if its primary product was asbestos nasal spray. No word on what the money will buy just yet, but we’re figuring the Knights of Castle Bromwich will be in fine mead and goode cookrye for some time to come.

Re: Ford to Pump $2.1 Billion into Jaguar

It's about time Ford makes the move becasue Jaguars are really outdated and the S and X-type aren't selling good at all.

Re: Ford to Pump $2.1 Billion into Jaguar

i agree, and i actually like that F type, looks very TVR too me....

I think the sales of the S were great to Jaguar, now it is time to bring it on full force. The Xk is hot too.

Juguar was a leading luxury brand during the mid 90s but since then it seem like the brand has stood still and not produced any exciting cars at all.

The best thing for Ford is to sell Jaguar to Renault/Nissan who have made an offer to buy Jag according to some sources. They will surely do a better job.

Rumor has it that Renault also offered to buy Volvo, makes this Renault buying from Ford story very credible on some level? I think that this may be the last time Ford will ever inject a huge amount of cash into the Brit brand, as it has sucked up quite a bit of Fords cash reserve already, in both past and present. Jags problem is the same problem all Brit brands suffer and have to have some sort of conservatorship through a bigger auto brand or outside investor, too few products. From the begining each Brit brand wanted to be very exclusive in the number of units sold each year, as Brit cars were (and continue) to be marketed as highly specialized, ultra luxurious(bar mini, of course), creme of the crop automobiles. I don't know how they thought this idea would ever endure or work over time?

I've never been a Jaguar fan, but I certainly don't want to see such an old and once great marque just fade in to obscurity. I'm glad to see that Ford have decided to take Jaguar seriously.

Re: Ford to Pump $2.1 Billion into Jaguar

I think that Jaguar still has a chance. Sure the new XJ looks just like the old one, but it is a first rate luxury car. The new XK is drop dead gorgeous especially the convertible. They need to make the X type more like the C class and have like a sport version and a luxury version. Because I think that they tried to make it a 3er fighter, and it came up short. It's looks leave a lot to be desired as well. The S type in my opinion has a timeless front fascia that still looks great. The rest of the car has aged badly, especially the rear. And the S type in the beginning was a bust. Talk about a Ford interior. And a lot of the parts in the interior still have Ford parts bin written all over it. I don't know about you, but the last thing I want in my 50k Jag is Ford F-150 window switches!! It's little things like that that have cheapened Jags. It's Fords own damn fault if you ask me.

They should definetly produce the F-type. That will be a great competitor against the SLK, Boxter and Z4. They also need a V12 in that XJ. It's not like they can't borrow the one from Aston Martin. Poof perfect competitor to the upper crust lux cars like the S600. They should also think about widening the range an X type coupe and/or an S-type coupe. Possibly a CLS/6er Competitor??

Well that's just my random jumbled thoughts about what should happen to Jag. It's should not die though.
