Sorry to revive an old thread...

My personal favourite is the W123 (currently restoring one, and using it as a daily drive). I think it treads the middle ground quite nicely. Sort of designed with a modern slant ( the non-round headlights ) but with the apparent build quality of the old world. The first time I encountered one was a sedan in a scrap yard with 3 cars on top of it. I opened the door and closed it, which resulted in a resounding thhwwuuuumppp. With at least 3 tons on top of the car... Truly impressive...

With petrol reaching 2 $ per liter, it's also nice to be doing 11-13 km/l.

Otherwise new to the site, truly enjoying all the info.

I'm sure that I will. First Wimmer made me buy a Mitsubishi, now a Merc. Hope he doesn't get an affiliation for Yugos...

I love the W123 with a passion. It's by far my favorite Mercedes, always has, always will.

It's a series 3 from 1984 230E 136 hp / 205 nm. It has a 5 gear manual (which is a godsend on the highway, and also improves fuel economy greatly) Moreover it has a revcounter and electric sunroof, best of all though is the two tone horn

. It has done 80kkm for the first 18 years of its life. Yesterday it passed 280.000 kilometres.

And with the new seats (are more deep red in real life)

I'm going for a new paint job, some corrosion also needs to be handled. Otherwise, the car is working perfectly.

And no I'm not FC Bayern

Wonderful car!

A rev-counter is a rarity on most W123s!

Personally I'd still opt for an automatic in this car (makes the "limousine feel" complete IMO) though.

I'm kinda jealous!

The auto would be nice, no doubt. However as 95% of my driving is on the high way I simply stick it in fifth which equates to about 5-600 lower rpm than 4th I believe. To me it greatly enhances the comfort of the car, as the engine noise is just a hum.
