Re: E-Class looses to...a CITROEN!

The Citroën certainly isn't to everyone's taste, but it's exactly what Citroën fans want. A car that is distinctive and different.
Nice to know that this time it can actually compete with the Germans on a more objective level as well.

i see the french car makers as a different way of thinking about cars and stuff. This is a completely different approach, done by them, and in no way they can compete the germans, starting from the worse materials used, (low budget cars), continuing to the technology the german have and ending to the whole philosophy of the brands...

Well once upon of time Citroen really had cars to compete with the germans, the DS and SM were more comfortable and in some way safer and more inovative than Germany's best.
Sadly those evil americans were banning just about every inovation Citroen made, and let's not forget the maintaince costs.

Re: E-Class looses to...a CITROEN!

The C6 is hardly low budget or low tech by any measure. All the reviews I've read so far have been (cautiously) favorable. The biggest problem with Citroën is the reputation it gained in the 80's and 90's and not as much the cars themselves.

Re: E-Class looses to...a CITROEN!

I consider myself a French car fan, not necessarily a Citroen fan, but I really doubt whether a C6 is really better than a Mercedes Benz. Of course, I don't think too highly of MB quality these days. The C6 looks like the older 1970s pre-Peugeot takeover Citroen cars. The CX is considered the last real Citroen.

I considered a Citroen C6 to replace my relative's Mercedes C320, but the inconvenient location of the dealership and historically poor reliability of the marque especially turned me away. French cars are known to rust, rust and did I mention rust? If anyone has seen pictures of older Peugeots or Citroens or even Renaults, sometimes the wheels sit tilted at an angle (due to rotting of suspension components) and they look like a race car running negative camber.

i also think the the CX is the last real citroen. I don't like the current lineup. As for the maintainance cost, i do know nothing about it, but i know that my clio (which is very old though) costs me a lot. I liked french cars sometime ago.

Same thing with Italian cars. Of all the cars that I've had in the past my least favorite was the Alfa because of the massive rusting problem.

I agree completely. I've always liked the Citroens. It's fine with me they are catching up with the Germans. The more competition the better for all of us.

I haven't seen the C6 on the road, but it seems less imposing than the old DS and CX though much better than the XM. I think the CX being the last real Citroen has little to do with the car. It's more an attitude I think. Citroen was independent, building good cars, making technological innovations and I think their enthusiasts lost their attachment to the marque when they were absorbed/rescued by a large French corporate juggernaut like Peugeot.

So Giannis, could the C6 replace the CX in your eyes? The depreciation must be awful just like all the other Citroens. A relatively new XM can be bought for a few thousand Euros.

Speaking on the rust issue I also want to mention that Honda/Acura are known to rust quite bad. And I'm shocked about this result.
