You have to remember that the stated 0-100 km/h time here is most likely the MB factory claim, and this is conservative. I am willing to bet that the E230 will probably do 0-100 km/h in the high 8 second range, 8.5 / 8.8 maybe.

Also, comparing the E230 to a 10 year old BMW is not fair because the priorities of this car might not even be performance. 10 years ago, gas was still relatively cheap so BMW could afford to make the 523i "fast" at the expensive of fuel economy through different gear ratios for example. Nowadays, the emphasis is on fuel economy and the people who buy an E230 obviously do care about that aspect.
