I was watching a debate on BBC World (held in Doha, Qatar) about this very issue: "Is It Time To Talk To Al Qaeda?" The audience voted over 60% yes.

Personally, I don't see it will make any difference. Maybe it is worth a try .....I don't know.

People often use the IRA in Ireland as a comparison ...but Al Qaeda is a very different organization from the IRA; it attracts angry psychopaths who kill indiscriminately while preaching an outrageous and extreme interpretation of the Koran. I don't believe many of them really care about the "cause" at all, they just want to kill people -- I don't know how it is possible to talk with these people and expect any reasonable or rational outcome.

Yep they are angry..and that leads to easy manipulation..
so wrong ppl are using this situation created by the US to missuse humans..

i dont know what their ultimate agenda is.. but i hope their motto is like bin laden says.. dont bother us..and we wont bother you..
maybe he is talking crap.. and when the US stop bothering him..he will try to take over western world..
but i think its worth a chance..
maybe their agenda is.. leave our ppl alone..
is that idea so far fetched?

Well, considering he has shown no regard for the lives of "his people" (or any human life) in the past, ...yes, I do find it a bit far fetched.

One thing about Bin Ladin and his supporters, when it comes to killing, they don't discriminate; they don't care what race or religion you are, they will kill you -- if you are an "infidel", then it is what Allah wants; if you are a Muslim, they'll call you are a martyr.

In his latest speech, he calls for the people of the United States to convert to Islam -- seriously, are these the demands of a reasonable man?

Personally, I don't believe the western world will end Al Qaeda. I think, eventually, the Muslim world itself will deal with the radicals. I know that most Muslim people are decent and tolerant. I have never told you this before Artist, but I have found the Muslim members of our forum to be some of the most enlightened and pleasant people I have ever met on the net. The Arab members would have to be some of the most polite people I have spoken with. I have come to respect them very much.

I hope the Arab world and the west will become closer -- there is no reason why we can't all live in peace.

That is so very true.
To be honest, this forum has really changed my view on ALOT of things. The news do a great job at giving us a biased view of muslims while it couldn't be further from the truth. I've discovered that muslims really are some of the nicest people there is and that even got me somewhat interested in their culture
One should never let extremists taint your view on an entire group of people.

People come in all types ! regarless if they are someone is muslim, jew, christian, fat, short, purple ( well maybe not that last one) .
And young angry people can easily be manipulated and misinformed!

I don't want to sound like Rodney King, but why don't we just get along ( or at least live and let live??)


Did I read wrong or is this B-L speech 2 years old? He says it's been 4 years since 9-11 that would place it in 2005.

The problem I have with Bin Laden's speech intended for "western consumption" is it is absolute bullshit.

The messages Bin Laden makes for the west are completely different from the ones he makes for the Arab world. Al Qaeda doesn't really care about Bush or Israel or Iraq ...and Al Qaeda's terrorism has little to do with retaliation -- it is really all about jihad and a fanatical desire for Islam to dominate the world. The messages Al Qaeda makes for the Arab World are about hatred of infidels and the desire for Islam to be the dominant force in the world.

Muslims always tell me Islam is a religion of peace ....and I believe most Muslims are completely sincere about that. However, it would appear that Bin Laden and his followers have a very different perspective on Islam.

Bin Laden:
"As to the relationship between Muslims and infidels, this is summarized by the Most High's Word: "We renounce you. Enmity and hate shall forever reign between us — till you believe in Allah alone." So there is an enmity, evidenced by fierce hostility from the heart. And this fierce hostility — that is, battle — ceases only if the infidel submits to the authority of Islam, or if his blood is forbidden from being shed, or if Muslims are at that point in time weak and incapable. But if the hate at any time extinguishes from the heart, this is great apostasy! Allah Almighty's Word to his Prophet recounts in summation the true relationship: "O Prophet! Wage war against the infidels and hypocrites and be ruthless. Their abode is hell — an evil fate!" Such, then, is the basis and foundation of the relationship between the infidel and the Muslim. Battle, animosity, and hatred — directed from the Muslim to the infidel — is the foundation of our religion. And we consider this a justice and kindness to them."

Now, I ask you if it would ever be possible for any non-Muslim to reason with this?

aint that the case in all religions..?
