This is a fascinating piece of information. Does anyone have a link to some site where this information can be verified? I tried to Google Maple Plains corp but did not find proper matches. Looks like there is a town called Maple Plains. Is there a Maple Plains Corp or is the company's name something else and they are just located in Maple Plains?

Re: * Now that's a Duesy! *

I can find no evidence anywhere that DCX own a company called Maple Plains corp or Duesenberg - could somebody confirm they do...or don't

It does make much more sense to me if they don't own it - I find it very difficult to believe that DCX would seriously consider reviving another ultra-luxury brand - especially after their experiences with Maybach's low sales and the rather gloomy economic forecast over the next few years....although that would have little personal effect on the lives of the people a car like this is aimed at.

Seems like that answer would come from Luwalira... Seems like he stated this in the first post.

Perhaps this is where it came from:

Although the Duesenberg brothers were world-class engineers, they were unable to sell their Model A car, their first mass produced vehicle, which was considered very advanced. Instead, the company went bankrupt and closed in 1922.

The bodywork made for Duesenbergs came from coachbuilders in both North America and Europe, and the finished cars comprised some of the largest, grandest, most beautiful and most extravagantly elegant cars ever created. The chassis cost - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER (about $100,000 in 2004), the completed base model cost $13,500, and for $20,000+ you could have the top-of-the-line model.

Introduced in 1932 was the supercharged 320 hp Duesenberg SJ, which had a top speed of 135 mph. Quickly the Duesenberg became one of the most famous cars in America, owned by the rich and famous, among them - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER and the - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER. There was a gradual evolution up to the 1937 model, that preserved the "stately lines" while moving into a more intergrated mode of styling.

Currently, there is another attempt to revive the Duesenberg name with the "Duesenberg Torpedo Coupe" slated for introduction in January 2007. This vehicle will have a Mercedes CL 500 as a chassis-donor and offer an air-cooled and self lubricating, forced-air inducted (supercharged), 12 cylinder, double ended, ported, multi-fueled, four-stroke engine with a calculated 70 MPG and 300 horsepower in a lightweight package (see link below).

The Duesenberg name still lives on as an object of opulence and luxury. Today Duesenberg Model J's and SJ's are among the most desired collectible classic cars in the world, and it is not uncommon today for a Duesenberg in good condition to sell for over $1 million, and a few into a multi-million selling price.

Yeah, I don't think DCX have any connection with the company except that this car would be based on a Mercedes-Benz CL - so it's kind of like what Fisker are doing.

Yep.. sounds right too me... Some great history in that story though...

I actually just started a thread on German influence on the US automobile. Lots of really interesting historic information... Love stuff like that, makes me feel more informed.
