Re: Windows Vista

I've got a Vaio FS115B right now. And it's working like a charm with the XP and office 2007. it's fast enough, smooth and I personalized it enough to look nice.

problem is though, upgrading it to get Vista might be expensive; I can get Vista Home premium at €99, as I am a student; But since my current 512RAM consists of 2 x 256, I can't just spend €50 to get an extra 512. I have to buy a €150 1064RAM to be able to run Vista. So that's a total of €250. That's sadly just too much for only a new look and better searchfunction. It's a shame though, cause I like Vista.

Well, the official price is 400 $. But as you said, you can buy OEM...Or 'on street'

So has the Windows Authenticity Verification (or whatever it's called) been broken?

Well, a quick look around at PB seems to suggest that it is quite possible to get a downloaded copy working properly so I would assume it has.

Re: Windows Vista

The Corporate version (not Business version) of Vista might not have any activation like corporate XP didn't. Although these copies are harder to find because they are easily traced to the purchasing company, so the latter are pretty strict about.

Re: Windows Vista

So on Friday I was at BestBuy playing with Vista, and I thought it looked much better than XP. But all the computers there, even the computers built for Vista, like the HP TouchSmart PC all lagged badly at my store...

So all in all, Vista is pretty, the new features make it much better, but it's sort of slow. It's not like jumpy slow, it's more like everything is in slow motion.

I also wanted to look at the Macs at my store, but they moved them, and the only BestBuy employee I could find was the Windows Vista guy...It was really funny, i thought he was going to strangle me when I asked.

Re: Windows Vista

Weird you mention that it's slow becuase I've reinstalled XP and installed Vista on the same system.

So both OSes are clean and freshly installed... and I must say that apps like Outlook & Excel appear to run much faster (at least to open them) on Vista. I'm running a dual core Intel Core2 w/2 GB of RAM.

One big complaint is the bootup time. Vista is much slower than XP.

So the boot time is terrible? These days I never shut down my laptop. I just let it hibernate and that saves like 30 seconds everytime I turn it on. Fellow laptop owners should do the samething. Instead of going into the start menu and shuting the laptop down, just press the power button once and the computer will hibernate.
