![]() | Re: CLS 63 AMG Ratios lOl, I agree with Just_me, good post man but I have a question ALI. Have you driven the M5 and E63 on a side-by side test drive? If you have than you would really know the weak points of both cars in the power bands. I`m guessing the E63s` AMG modified 7G really helps spread the power evenly through the gear-ratios better than the E55 and might be the reason it`s quicker past 150mph. |

Yes GTA , as a matter of fact I did race interlagos's M5 earlier when I even barely had 500 miles on my E63 , off 0 mph , the E63 is a blast so it takes an early deep lead over the M5 , I guess the cut down on torque and the raise from 2650 rpm helped for better skid , and then that 7G helps gain a couple more up to 100 mph , so you can say the E63 is ahead by 21/2 to 3 cars , the m5 gets just a little closer after 130 and it ends there , off rolling start , the M5 took the lead at the horn from 30 mph , but my 63 still caught up before 90 mph and so on ..... Hopefully we'll get it on video sometime | |

![]() | Re: CLS 63 AMG Ratios Oh , and one more thing GTA , the weaknesses of the E55 and M5 are pretty clear , E55 : at 110 mph , you feel like where the hell did that power go .. M5 : it just doesnt take off as fast , but who can blame the M5 ? Because it's such a masterpiece all together that you just have to love it the way it is .... As for the E63 , well imho : in this segment , it's just the perfect way to express 514 hp , so balanced , so fast at every point , and it doesnt lack power anywhere what so ever , I guess it has too much going on , the switch from 4th to fifth gear at 140 mph , it held the M5's approach .... |

The main problem with the E55 is that it`s massive 516lb-ft is released way too earily! at just 2650rpm it simply didn`t have enough leg room in the upper rpm range to like the E63 does as you stated. I can only imagine how well the E63 would do with 516lb-ft with the 7G. That would be crazy fast! Anyway I`m looking forward to that race... ![]() |

yeah , exactly what im trying to prove here , 2650 rpm so very soon , and then after 100 mph you dont feel any of that torque ..... I am serious , you cant start a rolling start with the E63 anywhere between 20 and 70 mph on manuel mode with ESP ON cause it will skid and interrupt your acceleration , that's where you feel all the torque at , at higher rpm torque , thats why I mentioned earlier , it has no lack of power what so ever ..... | |

Again this is the advantage of good turque output reached at higher rpm`s. Just think, the M5s` 383lb-ft of torque might not sound like much but it`s reached at 6100rpm which a hell of a lot of leg room to work with! One of the main problems with such a hi-rpm band where torque is reached, your off the line starts arn`t that impressive because the engine has to reach deep into it bowels for the power, but once the engine reaches it`s peak (5500-6000rpm) is where your really going to see and feel the difference! (as you noted) I`m glad MB chose this move with the E63. However, when the supposed Bi-Turbo version comes along things are going to change... Take note, with the M5`s higher-rpm hp and torque bands, it might actually be faster if you delimit both these cars simply because it`s working with more running space (leg room) than the E63. -just a throry of mine. ![]() | Re: CLS 63 AMG Ratios Btw ALI, I was about to ask if you had the same experience with the CL65. Although it has 738lb-ft it`s reported to have a steady peak from 2000-4000rpm which is very early. |
