Re: CLS voted best design 'Popular Mechanics'

The lines of the CLS always remind me of the 300SL, I think because it is low and quite wide - to me the CLS is very much a true Mercedes-Benz.

Re: CLS voted best design 'Popular Mechanics'

Was there ever another Mercedes with a sloppy rear design like CLS? I always had the impression that Mercedes models always had boxy rears.

Stop putting the CLS down with your mindless spams!

I guess you never knew the CLS was supposed to be a Maybach before MB decided to make it a Mercedes. This is why the rear slopes down much like the Maybach 57 and 62.

Re: CLS voted best design 'Popular Mechanics'

You still haven't answered my question.

For example 300SL had a slopy rear end but that was ages ago. In the recent years did any Mercedes had a similar design with CLS or not?

Obviously not!
Keep up with modern times and get more educated about automotive design.

Re: CLS voted best design 'Popular Mechanics'

Yannis, how come Audi doesn't have rears that looked like their cars from the 80's?

Design language will always change for any brand or marque, this is not exclusive to the automobile industry either. There are references to past MBs as other members have pointed out, and to more recent designs: I see grille, lower front spoiler, lights, and more.

But to expect the design follow everything else from other models is rediculous! That would be like the old Audi A8, A6, and A4 when at first glance they all looked the same at certain ranges because you couldn't see the lights from the rear.

To say that this award means nothing...well thats your opinion. This award apparently means something to the readers of this magazine, though it is an American one. I do read this even though I'm not that old, Popular Mechanics caters to a broad range of readers who are interested in various studies of science, not just cars. We get a diverse audience who may no be total auto enthusiasts, but may one day be in the market for an MB CLS.
