What a ridiculous and childish statement to come from supposed "professional drivers / journalists". Anyone who compares an S550 (or an S65 AMG for that matter) to an M5 needs a reality check.

Some people will actually stop reading a magazine because of comments like this. The old "they've lost all credibility" statement comes in handy in times like these.
Now in all honesty EVO did not exactly say that about the S-Class, but something of a similar nature. However i do recall EVO said the S8 less sporty and more expensive than the M5, which is true, but i honestly don't see how that makes the S8 any less great

I'm torn on EVO, because i do buy every magazine they make but when it comes to actual reviews ..

In my opinion they usually rate Sports cars as they should be rated, but when it comes to a non sports car, whether that be a luxury car or what not the rating goes down

Now i know EVO rates vehicles on their "thrill of driving" but maybe they could expand that..

Definitely.

One reason I never pay much attention to placings in magazines is because I know that they have their own opinions etc.

Still, when Car and Driver compares economy cars, they still ranted about the poor acceleration, skidpad numbers etc. As if buyers of these types of cars actually care about that.

The M5 and Audi S8 are two completely different cars. No doubt the M5 is more hardcore, but the S8 isn't supposed to be a car for the racetrack. The S8 is in the same class as the MB S63 AMG: refined and powerful über-sedans meant for the Autobahn.
