Lol. I think the same thing. The CLK is simply not hard core enough to compete with the M6.

Re: CLK63 to eat M6????

And now , that you guys see the final pics and slight performance figures , do you still think the CLK 63 is not hardcore enough to compete with M6 ?

I mean dont get me wrong , I never thought the CLK63 would be this hardcore either and turn out to be such a beauty . But I still want to know how many people have crossed their fingers on their opinion .

Re: CLK63 to eat M6????

take it from a MB fan.. i would be very surprised if the CLK was faster around the track.. i dont think that will happen..
but in a straight line.. well lets say it will be a very very close race

Re: CLK63 to eat M6????

Its for sure a contender.... Lots of torque. I dont see it being faster... It really isnt a track car.

a higher cylinder count does not equal more power, in fact it can often lead to less as you have more moving parts which equals more friction and inertia to overcome. I don't think that BMW necessarily needs to make the next M5 have an increase in power like what happened in the case of the e39 to e60. Rather, I'm hoping that BMW works on reducing the weight of their cars, which they have started to do with carbon fiber and lightweight plastic body panels on the M6. I would expect the next M5 to again have a 5 liter V10, maybe 5.5 liters, but use direct injection and perhaps debut camless technology to improve HP. Also, with gas prices on the rise, these two technologies are certainly needed. Both improve MPG on top of HP figures. My M5 gets on average 12 mpg! I don't even want to think what the MPG figure would be with an extra liter of displacement.

Re: CLK63 to eat M6????

I'm still trying to get used to thought of 481hp in a CLK! Makes me shudder to think what the update for the SLK55 to SLK63 will be like.

As far as the M6 I still don't think the CLK63 will be faster around a track and in a straight line it will be close, but I think the M6 will still win by the thinnest of margins.

Then again this CLK63 has been retuned so anything is possible. Now the CLK63 F1 car......

Re: CLK63 to eat M6????

to honestly tell you the truth...I definitley don't think that the clk63 can take on the M6. Like others have suggested, in a straight line it might but not around a track. As much as I respect AMG, I don't think they did nearly enough to this clk in order for it to match the M6 around the track. Now which one I would take from the two? I would slightly lean towards the M6 simply because it just looks a little better than the clk...not much, just a little...if you look at the pic on the first page of this thread, just look at the clk's side profile, its just so boring, no interesting lines are there.

But now if you were to bring in the CLK-safety car... ...you all know what i'm going to choose then...that car is beautiful and i hope AMG offers that as a package.

Right right, I know what you mean. I guess I was just generalizing about cars becoming more powerful. I think you might actually be spot on with the 5.5 liter deal. I can see the few next M5s being V12s... but it's gotta stop there. Maybe I'll have to take my words back in a few years, we'll see.

P.S. M6 for me... I will still stand by the fact that the 6er is still one of my favorite looking BMWs at the moment. Yea, I'm one of those guys.

I really hope that the next M5 has a V10. V10's are more bespoke, IMO.
