Thanks for the great article. I didn't realize that the SLK55 was so fast. It's a very cool car and the new transmission is certainly a welcome improvement. In my last post I was implying that I hope all aspects, ie chassis dynamics, improve to match the new engine and transmission. What good is all this new speed and power if you can't control/exploit it?

Yep, the SLK55 isn`t perfect but the performance is quit stunning.
The 63 models might have a more refined driving experience. It won`t be long before we see a SLK63. It should be an improvement over the SLK55 guys.

Re: CLK63 to eat M6????

Please guys , do not judge AMG cars by most of tests . If there is one test you can completely believe and trust , it's TOPGEAR . Why ? Because they use speedshift , and that's all they need to make the car work it . Not like that stupid girl at fifth gear , she tested the SLK55 in the automatic setting arround the track , most of you might not notice that but I own an AMG and to me she looked stupid and rediculous to not know how to use a car that she was actually testing , and same goes to lots of idiots like her . Believe it or not , most of the magazines do the same thing , we all know automatic geerbox will disturb the engine on a corner by changing gears according to the revvs , so when speedshift paddles are used , the driver can get the max out of it , same goes to why top gear got such an amazing record with the SLR and CLS 55 . The M5 did do slightly better than CLS55 , but that's because it's more powerfull and about 150 pounds lighter . We'll see what the 63s will accomplish soon , they are very promising and these models will get an all arround revised package .

Whats harder is to build the car around the driver. Its all about feelings, the driver and the car has to become one. You want a great driving experience, you want feedback when you drive a car.

Take for instance Golf R32 and 130i. R32 is a faster car around the track, accelerate fast as a 130i but carreviews commented that the 130i is more fun to drive cause the driving experience is better, the feedback to the driver is better. In EVO they had a test between RS4 and M3, the RS4 handles better and accelerate faster but they said the M3 was more fun to drive, the emotions and feedback to the driver was better.
A SL55 is faster than 911 Carrera around Nordschleife but it doesnt mean a SL55 is as fun as a Carrera or the feedback to the driver is better in a SL55.
Carrera simply offer a better driving experience cause you become one with the car.

So whats the meaning with this post? Im saying a big engine isnt the only thing that matters. The ultimate driving experinence is more than just a big engine, its also about feedback and feelings.

ABSOLUTELY! Sometimes lap times and acceleration arent as important as steering feel. The car that makes the driver feel as though they're one with it, is going to win the buyer more than anything else. Andreas, you nailed it on the head! Cars that make the driver feel confident and "awesom" are the cars that are going to sell.

TopGear mean nothing to me, I listen to what Sportauto says.
The best thing is to try the cars and make up your own mind. TG is just a joke to me, its a fun entertaining show but what they say goes through my ears.

What about their tests arround the track with stigg ? is that a joke to you ? that is the only part of top gear I take seriously , everything else is just entertainment .

And you might be right about trying the cars and making up your mind being the best thing , but how many here are doing this and posting according to what they tested , all I see is that they are saying whatever they want about the cars they dont like . Have you ever read a post of mine that criticises the M5 ? No ofcourse , because I dont BS about something I know or have tested .

I dont get your point clearly , but nothing is wrong with any of the new benzes' steering feel anyway .

TopGear is all about entertaining, thats the point with TG. Their shows cant be taken serious. I watch cause is fun not because I want to learn something about the car.

And their laptimes are strange, they changed driver, many laps are done in the wet and some cars get to bad laptimes thats to bad to be true sometimes.
If I want to check laptimes I go with Sportautos times. Its a wellknown source around the motorenthusiasts. Sportauto dont just drive the car around tracks, they also tell us how the car behave, how the car feels to drive, what's good or bad about the car and what could be improved etc etc. Sportauto go deap on the cars and tell us several details.

Where can we find these Sportauto reviews?? P.S. has the Nordshleiffe times been updated lately?
