Re: Will the B-Class make it to the U.S.?

I just read on CNET that the Toyota Yaris is coming to America, it looks like you guys are going to get a load of small cars in the coming years!

Re: Will the B-Class make it to the U.S.?

If Mercedes is smart they will not attempt this. Mercedes can't sell an entry-level car in the U.S. You can't have it both ways in the badge-means-everything U.S. market. If you're going to sell E/CL/SL/S/CLS cars for high prices then stick to that. The C-Class sedan is a low as it should go. Even that so called C-Class "Coupe" (uhh...hatchback) flopped. Mercedes would be nuts to bring the B-Class here. Now if you're going bring over Smart then there is no need for the B-Class. Actually there is no need for Smart either, its just too darn small to cut it here.

It's pretty fugly that's all... and as for cheap car, are you kidding?! Here a dinky 134hp base B200 ($30,950) is the same price as a V6 Accord ($30,400)! A small japanese car aims for around the 18k$ mark.

That pricing alone would spell its demise here in the U.S.

Re: Will the B-Class make it to the U.S.?

The B200T competes quite favourably with the Golf GTI here, and I think if there's a market for cars like the GTI, there's certainly a market for small cars in the US.

Re: Will the B-Class make it to the U.S.?

There is definitely a market for small hatchbacks in the US. The Toyota Yaris and Honda Fit are good examples. I'm sure their sales are great because of rising gas prices. But the problem with Benz and Smart is that they are way overpriced and just don't have anything to compete with. Like Siko mentioned, no one in their right mind is going to shell out 30 grand for a hatchback here. Having both the Smart and B-class would be doubly disastrous. The only way the Germans can come into this segment is by having a sporty hatchback, such as the A3, Mini, 1er, Golf GTI...

Note that the 30k is in Canadian dollars... so consider about 22-23k for the US.

Ok that makes a lot more sense actually. Well, then I guess it's not so bad. People will be willing to shell out that kind of money (22 rather 30) for the Benz badge. I don't know if it'll be that successfull but they can pull it off better than bringing Smart here I think.

Re: Will the B-Class make it to the U.S.?

do you want mercedes cars will be same as toyota yaris or any other japanese cars in price. Is S-class same as avalon and E-class same as camry?. There are some people would like to be special so they will take B-class over yaris and ofcourse they will not care about price and petrol.

Sure, but like I said, you can get a V6 Accord or a fully loaded GTI for the same price as the lowliest base B-class?! Makes no sense to get the B-class, considering it's not very apealing, nor does it really offer anything exciting other than a MB badge.
