M- Why do you think it would be slower ? Although not being enhanced by a turbo or supercharger, the "63" is an extremely high reving engine with tremendous torque all through the rpm curve.

It does has a tremendous torque through all the rpm curve but it does not has as much torque as the old 55 Kompressor engine produced.
The huge torque in the 55 Kompressor engine is already available in lower rpm's because of the kompressor, while the in 63 engine you have to rev it higher to get the same amount of torque.
Torque is what you need for a smooth and effortless acceleration and drive/cruising especially in a heavy car like the CL-class.
Having a the n/a 63 engine in the CL would eventually result being a slower car than when having a 55 Kompressor engine.
Also the CL-class is a heavier and more premium car than the E/CLS class, so it goes without saying that it has to outperform or at least equal to the E/CLS-class in terms of acceleration.

However it has less torque than the old 5.5 SC V8 and it has to work a lot harder for the torque it has. A high-rev type engine a cars like a S/CL is out of place. Those cars should have effortless performance and the way to get that in such heavy cars is relatively low-rev torque.

There is no way with all the talk in various AMG articles in which the head guy has stated many times that he sees room for a turbo V8 in between the n/a 6.3L V8 and the 6.0L Bi-Turbo V12.

As I said in the S class AMG thread that Autocar spoke to someone from AMG who said that we will see turbo charged engines in about 3 years time so I still think it will be N/A but with a bit more hp...

We'll see, I can't see that happening, but we'll find out soon enough I guess.

Re: Mercedes CL-Class AMG Sport Package And Pricing Revealed

I do not think we will see a CL63 for at least a year or so after the debut of the regular models. Certainly, i think we will first see the 65 model, as was the case with the 65. MB is heavily at work on the new AMG V8 turbo iterations, which promise to be monsters--up to 1000 hp for the SLR successor. Therefore, MB will take its time to introduce it--they may take the time to get it "right".
Only question i have is whether they will want to take the effort to update the V12 AMG after having such a v8 monster. I certainly hope so. Something special about a V12[AMG].

Re: Mercedes CL-Class AMG Sport Package And Pricing Revealed

I think we'll see a whole new V12 by the time the S-Class gets a facelift. AMG will of course do a version of that engine for the FL 65 cars to further them from the new V8 cars.
