Cayman too expensive?

I've been hearing about some cars giong for as much as $70k.... that's as much as a 6 series... I know the car has an awesome engine/packaging/handling, etc... but really, is the car worthy of that kind of price tag? Of course that's relative but $70k is a lot for a car who's closest competitors are going for under $40k.

Re: Cayman too expensive?

There are indeed a lot of people who are bitching about the price. With a starting price of around 60-65k the car isn't that expensive and you really do get value for you money. you more of less get one of the finest sports car under 100k. But as with all luxury cars you do equip the car with goodies like ceramicbreak, dvd/satnav, full leather option and when equping a Porsche it isn't not hard to end up with equipment cost reaching 10-20k. The Z4 coupe will likely be cheaper but as with Porsche cars they are better and more refined than the competitors and that weighs up to the price. I'm not saying that the Cayman is cheap but is worth the money if you can afford it.

Re: Cayman too expensive?

I most def. agree that it's worth the money, but you're soon closing in on 911 territory as you get up in price. I can't blame Porsche for making the options list as long as it is, that way you can spec your car JUST how you want it, w/ out getting bits you have no use for. My Cayman would be bare bones options, such as sport seats(I need them, give me more room than std. seats), and perhaps a few non essentials such as Bose surround sound and Xenons(those are becoming more necessity for these eyes, lol, j/k)

Re: Cayman too expensive?

I would personally equip a cayman carsefully so that the final pricee isn't too close to the price of a carrera S. And sitting in a Cayman it would probably be very sad to stand beside a 911 at traffic light since you would know that your car is great but could have been faster.

Re: Cayman too expensive?

Well, 'faster' for the 911 might only be in a straight line - I reckon that around bends, either could be as fast. It's probably up to the buyer's preference for different handling characteristics and behaviour.

As for getting close to the 911, just the same as nobody would spec a no-frills Cayman, who specs a no-frills 911 anyhow? And does the 'price of 911' include onroads and stuff that makes it more expensive still?

Furthermore, I reckon Porsche knew what a weapon they had on their hands, such that the media has been calling it a 911 killer and such. If they made the price too low, they would have made it a nightmare come true. So, make it expensive enough that the value proposition isn't a no-brainer, and keep the 911 as the flagship (CGT notwithstanding).

Re: Cayman too expensive?

This is a window sticker to the Cayman S, not for nothing but thats a high end version of the Cayman, perhaps the regular will be $15K cheaper.

Re: Cayman too expensive?

I think it is expensive a little bit .. my brother has ordered a carrera white cayman s with tracota leather (red) and aluminium trim .. fully loaded except the ceramic brakes and 19 inch wheels ... the car has a tag price of 68500 $ ... including some extras like the sport exhaust i dunno what was that exactly .. umm lemme remember what else ... I think those are the most important ones ..

Re: Cayman too expensive?

MabroooK Bro great choice of colors.

Well am starting to like the cayman, espcieally in dark colors its looking nice plus i saw one with painted vents which is much better looking IMO.

The price was expected i guess, above the boxter and under the carrera. And lets not forget its a Porsche nevertheless.
