Re: Cayenne Turbo S

This car has been spoken of during the latests month and I think that the Turbo S is a good counter attack against MB's MB63 which will still be faster and cheaper too. Although it is faster i doubts that it handles as good as the Cayenne which also is a better off road car than the ML. Still the pirce for this Turbo S is insane 117k!!! Add satnav/dvd, full leather and other goodies and you'll hit 130k easily but hey it's a Porsche.

Who says the Cayenne is better offroad? The MLs final offroad package hasn't even been released yet.

Re: Cayenne Turbo S

it all depends on which tires the company decides to give the their vehicles. i drove the new ML with sport package in the snow last month and it had ALOT of trouble trying to find traction.

Exactly, not to mention the pofile of the tire. A tire is even more vulnerable to a puncture the lower the profile; and rims are more likely to be bent the bigger the raidi. Anyways does the Cayenne have a center locking diff, I don't know if it is available for the ML yet.

Out of curiosity, what kind of 4x4 system does the new ML use? Just a souped up 4matic or what? I'm not too good with 4x4 Benz's.

If it's anything to go by, the Cayenne was praised as being one of the best handling on road but being much more competent at off-roading than the X5 and old ML. If the ML is going to beat, it needs to do a lot of things differently than the last generation. Let's not forget, Porsche are known for the AWD system.

But then again... who would want an over $100k SUV... and who would take a Porsche or a car of that price off road.

Re: Cayenne Turbo S

I couldn't really tell you much about the MLs 4wd system, I haven't experienced it first hand. Although, being a competent offroader is more than just a slick/advanced 4wd system; wheelbase, front/rear overhang, ground clearance, weight, suspension, chassis design, tires, etc. all play even more of a role.
To my understanding there is an offroad kit (for the ML) that has been available as well as a centerlocking diff that will be available if it isn't already.
