| Re: [scans] AMS: C 63 AMG - First Drive Don't worry about it. The Interview with Volker Morhinweg, CEO of AMG AMS: What were the priorities when developing the C63 AMG? VM: We wanted to make the C63 AMG as different as possible from the last generation model, especially in regards to driving dynamics and handling as well as exterior design. Our market research has shown that most C-Class AMG customers are younger than your typical conservative SL or S-Class buyer and that these people, who buy the C63 AMG, want something flashy and sporty. AMS: Is the addition of more sport going to hurt the comfort of the car? VM: We didn't want a car that was brutally hard and uncomfortable. The balance between sport and comfort was very important to us. Due to the focus on sport and handling, we developed a new suspension that will provide this balance making the car a good handler and capable long distance cruiser. AMS: Does the customer have the choice of customizing the suspension to personal tastes? Or have you tuned the car to a setting which you find optimal? VM: Originally we developed the car with this in mind, but in the end we found out that an optimal suspension setting should satisfy the desires of most customers. However, our decision to include three different settings of the ESP shows that we do care about the different types of customers who purchase these cars. AMS: Does the button "ESP off" mean that the ESP is fully deactivated? VM: Yes, the ESP is fully turned off. In emergency situations, when the driver losses control of the car, he'll have to depress the brake and the ESP will automatically reactivate and take care of the situation. AMS: Let's talk about the competition. Audi is focusing on AWD in this segment. Is a C63 AMG 4Matic in the works? VM: Our market research has revealed that only a very small percentage of our clients would like an AWD AMG vehicle. Also, with the amount of power our C63 AMG is making, we would have to take the standard Mercedes 4Matic system and give it a big overhaul - which costs time and money and is therefore impractical when compared to the practically non-existant demand of 4Matic AMGs. AMS: The EU demands for lower emissions is a blow to companies like AMG. How are you coping with this? VM: The demanded 130 gramms per kilometer are unrealistic in this class (performance cars). We are however working on new technologies that help reduce fuel consumption and emissions such as incorporating Start-Stop functions, direct injection as well as turbocharging. ![]() |

Yeah the thing about emissions is annoying. Especially because the EU is coming up with such retarded ideas like "banning performance cars". Sometimes I really hate politicians who have nothing to do other than make up BS rules. ![]() | |
