Initial Build Quality

Now that the w204 has been out for a couple of months in select markets, for those early adopters, what are your thoughts on initial build quality?

i remember when i first got my w203 coupe, after about the first month, squeaks and rattles from my seat as well as from the rear trunk cover started popping up... drove me nuts.

anything to report for the new c-class?

Re: Initial Build Quality

It's too early to tell. I am very confident though that this car is going to receive excellent ratings from owners. Mercedes did their homework and so much more when they developed this car such as testing her for close to 4 million kilometers etc.

I've driven the new C-Class and the interior for example is well made and feels solid. The whole car in fact feels solid - like a Benz should.

Again, I think it'll do very well. And if it doesn't, then we know Consumer Reports is full of crap.

Welcome to the forums by the way!

Re: Initial Build Quality

yeah, I think MB learned their lesson when it comes to build quality. But as far as materials go, do some of you think it should have been more luxurious? It very easily turns into a grey or black almost entirely plastic environment.

Yup, I think they should have used better materials but the same goes for BMW with the E90/91 (E92 is better IMO). Audi is easily the leader in the interior quality feel even the A4 is soon to replaced by the new one.

Re: Initial Build Quality

I think the interior materials are fine, it is just the visual presentation that is lacking in the C-Class. Especially the big slab of black plastic in the center console is the biggest turn-off.

I am very happy with the interior quality of the new W204 C-Class.

Visually, however, it doesn't shine the aura like the A4 does. I'd say the plastics used in the W204 C-Class are every bit on the same level as those of the Audi A4 etc. Again, the visual presentation of the interior could be a bit better, in particular the center console. I think most people look at that part of the interior and immediately see a lot of black plastic. Black plastic = cheaps in the minds of many people. That's how I feel many make their decision about the interior.

The materials are just fine, the panel gaps are small, much of the interior feels nice to touch and once you spend time inside the car, you'll feel it is indeed a nice place to be, particularly with lighter colors.

The interior quality is just fine. You will notice that when you spend some time inside the car. Don't worry about it. The interior does a good job of making you feel as if you're inside a premium car, at least it works on me. Compared to the W203, this interior is miles ahead in quality, quality of materials and quality feel.

By the way, found this interesting color on the local dealer lot. This was a C350 Elegance by the way.

Re: Initial Build Quality

I think the exterior is great! The big turn off is the interior specially the black plastic dash that shouldn't be in a Mercedes.
I just hope that the new E-Class is better...
