1200+ HP Veyron--272MPH

Any news on this? A friend of mine said he saw a magazine cover that said bugatti were making a 1200+hp veyron that should do around 272MPH.

I think VAG is building it to shutup those american car companies that say theyre car is faster than the veyron (ssc aero that claims 270mph yet never done anywhere near it).

Will go out and buy the magazine tomorrow.

I think i agree, dont see why they would do such a thing, it took forever to get the current one in order.... Strange...

272mph, who is going to want to go that fast??

There is only one place in the world where you could go that fast, imagine how much it would cost VAG to make the car go that fast!

272mph is physically impossible for the Veyron. If it went just a few mph faster than it does it would take off. Sure one could modify the downforce settings a bit but to go that figure it would also require a change of gearbox, and there is no such gearbox in the world. I don't believe this in a second.

1200hp doesn't sound that unrealistic though.

I thought the gearbox was geared to like 280mph?

As for the aero Im sure VAG can wave their magic wand and make it happen. Maybe this version would be a more driver focused machine with less of the creature comforts to lighten things a bit.

I remember reading about someone who drove it and reached a little bit above 400km/h but thought he could do more since there were a little bit of revs left to go. I also think that if it was geared for 280mph it wouldn't accelerate as fast as it does

Well obviously 7th gear is going to be an overdrive gear along with maybe even more than that. A lot of fast cars these days reach their top speeds in 5th gear (or 6th if they're 7 speed transmissions). I'm sure they wouldn't need to do much gearbox changes for this top speed, the big hurdles would come more from aerodynamics than anything else.

It can be done, of that I have no doubt, but the fact is that the current Veyron's top speed is over 250 mph - probably a bit over 255 mph, but no one knows because of tyre limits.

What I think everyone should note is that with 1000 hp, the Veyron hits 250 mph+. But to get an extra 20 mph, it will need 200 hp more. That is the real issue. At that speed, the aerodyanmic forces against the car are huge and it requires a mssive amount of power to get only a small increase in speed.

And the final thing to note is...how long would the fuel tank last at that speed? I would imagine you would drain the entire tank in less than 10 minutes at top speed.

Actually we dont know if the extra 200hp is needed to get to 272HP as the veyrons top speed is electronically limited.
