The Bentley Flying Spur. Love it or hate it, it's still a very good car.

In the time I have been visiting this auto forum, only one car, the BMW E65/66, has polarized opinions more than the Bentley Flying Spur.

Sure, it's probably not the most beautiful car ever conceived ...and yes, it's hardly what the "Bentley Boys" of the 1930s would have considered to be much of a sports car. But we should give credit where it is due. The Bentley Flying Spur is a supremely well-made car ..and with it's Twin-turbo 6-liter W12 engine, it's awesomely powerful too.

This car really does polarize opinions. The interior is, as already known in Bentley, great, but what is let's say controversal, is the exterior design, especially the back. Front looks pretty OK, modern but the back is just too usual, unrecognizable. Roberto, don't you think Bentley should have worked more on the design, because of all royalty, tradition and luxury that is in their badge??

Oh yeah Dom, I've always had a problem with the design of it. I don't hate it like some people on this forum, but I think it could have been much better looking.

Interestingly the rear view reminded me a bit of the Maybach rear. Not in detail, but in general outline.

Funny you should say that donau -- I have long thought the whole vehicle was vaguely Maybach-esque in style.

The Flying spur has some sort of a limousine touch to it which I'm not so fond of.

Well I guess, technically speaking it is a limousine ...not so much in the American sense of the word ...but in the more traditional sense -- being a large formal automobile.

Excuse me Rob but Maybach has taken a lot of design clues from British cars (just like CLS has) and it's not the other way around.

Of course Maybach is a complete failure design wise. It looks more like a Huyndai than a Mercedes.

Since it looks just like the Bentley CGT it has never really been a "new" car and doesn't looks as exquisite as the Arnage or Phantom. It is a product of platforming sharing, you could almost call it a bastard

. It was simply manufactured in the purpose of filling a gap and take a slice of the market from the S-class.
