Airliners.net SOLD

I knew this was going to happen one day. With a site getting about 1 million hits alone in one day, it was bound that Johan, the owner, would sell this profitable website. In the link below you can see what official announcement by the owner himself. I really wonder how much he sold it for. The website was very profitable, although he doesn't admit it himself. Apparently he drives a Ferrari from what I read on this thread. Either way, I know there may be some of you who are aware of this site and should be informed.

Re: Airliners.net SOLD

Artist, I bet he sold it for a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if he sold it un upwards of $700,000 US. I am sure Mark could give us more of an insight when it comes to stuff like this.

Nevertheless, dpreview.com was sold recently to amazon.com

Re: Airliners.net SOLD

Wow.. thanks for the update Michael.

Yeah, with that site growing on a daily basis and having such an immense amount of content, there would come a day when things would get too much for Johan. As you guys say I'm sure he got a nice profit out of the deal.

As for dpreview.com ... I had no idea it got sold to amazon.com. Have there been any changes to that site since the sell-off Mike?

Re: Airliners.net SOLD

Not really. With most takeovers, the membership gets mad and bothered because there is a sense of 'taking-over by a bigger and better company.' Also, there is the idea that the company will not have the same interests in mind. Dpreview.com apparently is not going to see major changes, more subtle ones, but with the support of amazon, there will be money in the right places. We will have to wait and see how things turn it. Amazon may just not let the website promote other sellers and simply direct all traffic over to amazon.com.
