Re: Nissan sues Audi over using 'Q' in Q7 name.

I don't See mercedes suing the pants of Infiniti for using the letter 'G' when Mercedes has been using it for years before Infiniti ever had.

Dumbasses.

Re: Nissan sues Audi over using 'Q' in Q7 name.

Next you'll hear them sue themselves for using the letter Q in QX56, or maybe sue Nissan cuz they use the same engine

The whole thing is crazy, i really dont think this is going anywhere as far as law. Many manufacturers would be in fault, it would start a wave....

Re: Nissan sues Audi over using 'Q' in Q7 name.

This intellectual property argument is intriging - just this week Greek cheese-makers have legally stopped any other cheese-makers in the world from using the name feta - because it was originally a Greek invention. The French have done the same with Champagne.

The problem I have with this is that these intellectual property rights are not written in any law - they are almost all the result of precedents set by individual cases tried almost exclusively in US courts of law - because the US justice system allows for this kind of nonsense to occur - quite frankly the US legal system is at times farcical - far from upholding freedoms and rights - they seem to continually be encroaching on peoples sense of freedom - you can be sued for just about anything in the US - if you can't afford a lawyer - then you really are in trouble. However, as we have seen in the past, you can certainly buy "justice" if you're wealthy enough. The problem is, US law is written by lawyers for lawyers own benefit - and there are some extremely wealthy lawyers in the States.

Re: Nissan sues Audi over using 'Q' in Q7 name.

wow, its really sad what this world is coming to. I was unaware that Nissan purchased and created the letter Q? Thats odd, I thought it had been around before. O, and why doesnt Mercedes sue Nissan or infiti for using G in G35. Mercedes G has been around alot longer.

Wow! you hit the nail on the head. Lawyers try to create laws to benefit lawyers. Right now in California, Lawyers are trying to pass a bill that doesnt require a lawyer to have a victim in order to sue companies. The state of the states is really in sh*t hole.

But feta isnt a trademark, is it? or is it just some invention, and so is champagne?

- the rest of the world is not far behind the US though - and many international companies take advantage of US courts. The WTO is also being used for these purposes.

Famous designations that could be looked at: GT, Targa, Superleggera, etc.. - who owns these?
