Audi and KTM collaborate on new car project

Audi plans to produce a new car in a joint venture with Austrian motorcycle company KTM, reports Kleine Zeitung. According to the report, the new model - a roadster - is scheduled to enter production in Austria in 2007.

TT Roadster I guess.

It is scheduled for 2007 (Coupe for 2006).

So ...

I just can't see they could develop a totally new Audi model in a year. So, it must be TT Roadster.

Audi is rumoured to be working on a "puristic roadster" in partnership with Austrian motorcycle company KTM. The project is said to not be strictly official, but to "have the sympathy" of Audi boss Dr Winterkorn, according to Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung; a decision as to whether it will go ahead will be made in two or three months, and it could go into production in 2007. The paper quotes a senior Audi official as saying that the company was in discussion with "working groups at development level".

This two-seater roadster, said to have been inspired by the Lotus Seven, is thought to have a 250bhp, four-cylinder VW Group engine, and to weigh just 700kg. Its KTM-developed structure may be classified as a motorcycle rather than a car, demanding that occupants wear a helmet. However, unlike the Volkswagen GX3 prototype seen at the Los Angeles Auto Show last week, it will have four, rather than three, wheels.

The report suggests that the roadster could be revealed at the Bologna Motor Show at the end of the year, probably under the KTM brand. It would be made by in Austria by either KTM or Magna Steyr, and a starting price is estimated at around 35,000euros.

The Austrian "Kleine Zeitung" is reporting that Audi is preparing a secret car together with Austrian motorcycle company KTM.

The secret car is said to arrive 2007 and will be a "puristic roadster".

The project has "the sympathy" of Audi's boss Dr. Winterkorn, but will be decided in 2 to 3 months time by Audi.

The roadster's role model is the legendary Lotus Super Seven, but with all characteristics of a motorcycle. It's already clear that you have to wear a helmet inside the two-seater which is weighting only 700 kg.
It's also already clarified that it will receive its powertrain from Audi. Currently discussed is a 4-cylinder engine with 250 bhp.

A prototype shall be produced soon and the world premiere of the roadster could be at the Bologna motor show end of 2006. Start of the production, which will be in Austria, could be in 2007.
Estimated price is around 35.000 Euro.

We wrote sometime ago about the possible Audi - KTM sporty roadster inspired by the Lotus Seven: VW engine (the 2.0 TFSI ?) and low weight (about 700 kg).

Now, young dutch artist Michiel Van Den Brink has produced some sketches of this possibile roadster, based on the rumors that have been circling and classical KTM color schemes. Nice. Can't wait to see how close he got.

KTM makes an awsome dirt bike so it they'd probably make a pretty decent roadster as well. Sounds to me like an Ariel Atom type of car.
