Audi sees U.S. car sales up at least 6 pct in 2006 Volkswagen's premium unit Audi expects to increase car sales in the United States by at least 6 percent in 2006, helped by the planned launch of the Q7 sport utility vehicle (SUV), the company said in remarks embargoed for Thursday. Audi sales chief Ralph Weyler, asked on Wednesday in Los Angeles whether the brand could increase deliveries by at least 6 percent this year, said: "You can assume that." Audi posted a 6.6 percent gain to 83,066 units in 2005. Weyler's forecast reflected in part the U.S. launch of an all-new SUV in early summer. The model will hit dealer showrooms in Germany in early March. Audi plans to sell 70,000 units of the Q7 in 2007 -- its first full year on the market -- half of which are expected to be delivered to U.S. customers. The brand overall has targeted global sales of more than 820,000 units for 2005, and while Weyler described the past year as a very good one for Audi, he declined to provide an exact figure for its results. Audi will present its sales figure for 2005 during the motor show in Detroit later this month. The Ingolstadt-based carmaker aims to ramp up annual global sales to 1 million units by 2008. "This means that we will have to improve each year," Weyler said, adding that the brand was far from fully reaching its potential in the U.S. market.
