Doubtful, diesels are hardly sporting not to mention they are very heavy, a production car V12 diesel would be monstrous in weight. My guess is that this will be more or less a development engine to test and showcase what future Audi diesels will replicate.

This actually kind of reminds me of those X5s that participated in the Paris to Dakar Rally in 2003. They were equiped with and testing BMWs top of the line I-6 diesel.

BTW when does the Dakar start?

Dakar starts Jan 1.

diesels can be sporty, just look at the tri-turbo one in the slk.

I thought that it's not that diesels were inherently heavy, though high compression ratios would probably require a slightly heavier/stronger block and heads than the equivalent petrol spark ignition engine. Wouldn't the main cause be that most diesels so far are cast iron blocks?

Hasn't BMW or someone now got an alloy-block diesel?
