Re: What Would It Take For Audi To Be Independent?

I feel so uninformed, I never knew the Zonda was not available in the US.

I wonder if the next Pagani model will cater for the US market -- it wouldn't be a bad thing for business.

Yeah, it's true.

^^ EDIT, Not about you being uniformed!!!

FYI: Nearly all Zonda's which have been imported to the United States are under the registry title of "Show and display"

Very true. Especially consider Pagani has more than a few American customers.

I never knew too... And yet, Pagani is doing well being excluded from the world's largest automotive market. OT: there are 10 Zondas alone in Singapore and Malaysia combined.

I think the concern here is not whether Audi can be independent or not, it's whether its products will conflict with other products with the VAG group.

VW has made numerous mistakes - one, which I think they will make now, is to offer consumers different variations of the same theme. What I mean is that, for example, the A8 is supposedly for the sporty driver and the Phaeton is meant for the chauffeured driver... But it couldn't work. The volume needed to make a profit being shared by 2 cars competing in the same segment was not reached (for the Phaeton) - there simply isn't enough customers that can be shared by the two cars. Let's not forget the competition, that contributed to the failure of this 'scheme of work' as well. People eventually took the A8 over the Phaeton because of its name and reputation, and more.

Will future clashes between Porsche and Lamborghini, Bentley and maybe even Bugatti... Work?

Re: What Would It Take For Audi To Be Independent?

One thing VW needs to stop trying to do is to keep this Phaeton thing going. If they're working on a successor I think they'll spend even more money and time for naught. They need to get that small SUV to market and produce a successor to the Touareg that doesn't cost a fortune. Then they need a true sports coupt, not that proposed hatchback looking thing. The GTI/R32 is all the hatchback needed. Darn right VW has made nothing but mistakes, especially concerning the U.S. market.

There is no way Porsche or VW wants to or would even consider letting Audi go at this point. Besides the very small contributions to the bottom line made by Bentley and Lamborghin, Audi is their best bet to right the entire VAG ship.

Maybe the Iroc would serve well to be VW's sports coupé.

Ok that is the one, I couldn't think of the name. It looks like a sleeker Golf/GTI/Rabbit to me not a true replacement for the Corrado and Scirocco. Those cars were sports coupes more than hatchbacks.
