![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Kia: Getting serious, ... or just child's play ? Kia Sidewinder Concept ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Cars like this one could serve to lift Kia's public persona a couple of notches. US-based Kia designer, Marc Mainville, has entered his radical design for the Kia Sidewinder concept in the Los Angeles Automotive Show. The aim of the contest is to find a car that is ideally suited to the sunny Californian lifestyle. We're not quite sure why the Sidewinder is suited to California, but the two-seat racer comes with impressive credentials nevertheless, powered as it is by a compressed natural gas turbine. The turbine feeds electricity to a series of in-wheel, high torque, electric motors. Kia chose drift racing as its theme for the show because Los Angeles was the scene of the first officially-sanctioned American drifting event. Drift racing, as its name suggests, is a popular form of motor racing in the US where two cars race the clock and each other around a tight circuit, with the two rear-wheel drive cars sideways for most of the event. This environmentallyresponsible lean, mean, thrilling machine has been designed to grab the crowd's attention while carving lines sideways through the race course. Kia's arch rival Hyundai has lifted its image with the Tiburon sports car but so far Kia lacks a sports machine. Hmm.. does this mean we have to officially stop mockin Kia and start to take them seriously ? ![]() |
