Re: Images that changed the world

^^ I think it's one of those radicals who did it to himself to get his point across...

whatever floats his boat I guess. Idiot.

Michael, here:

Quote:
Thích Quảng Đức [1963]

Thích Quảng Ðức was a Vietnamese Buddhist monk who burned himself to death at a busy Saigon intersection on June 11, 1963. His act of self-immolation, which was repeated by others, was witnessed by David Halberstam, a New York Times reporter, who wrote:

" I was to see that sight again, but once was enough. Flames were coming from a human being; his body was slowly withering and shriveling up, his head blackening and charring. In the air was the smell of burning human flesh; human beings burn surprisingly quickly. Behind me I could hear the sobbing of the Vietnamese who were now gathering. I was too shocked to cry, too confused to take notes or ask questions, too bewildered to even think.... As he burned he never moved a muscle, never uttered a sound, his outward composure in sharp contrast to the wailing people around him."
damn.....that is some amazing control of body and mind. He must have been in utter and extreme pain before he passes out..... Or he was on some kind of drug (sounds more plausible)

Thanks for this excellent thread James. I have always considered Photojournalism to be the most valuable use of photography of all.

I guess it's because with such a large population in China, such occurences when measured in per capita are not that substantial. Besides, when something happens continuously, people will tend to forget about it, no matter how grave or serious it is.

There are some more pictures from the link in the first post in case you guys didn't notice.
