Arabic Architecture *56k= Blue screen*

Arabic Architecture

Beside becoming a big fan of contemporary art I have the latest weeks come to conclusion that the middle east is currently the leader in architecture. It is not only becasue they have lots of money to their disposal and can live out there bizzare dreams of building the on islands on water.

What facinates me about architecture in the middle east is that they know how to incorporate the nature and surroundings with the buildings they construct. Unlike here in the western world were trees and grass are removed and replaced with asphalt and a big glass building. Sure the result is often pretty nice but the building often lack character, culture and don't give you that wow sensation like som of the creations in the middle east. Hopefully some of the pictures below will give you a hint of what I'm talking about.

Very interesting stuff here! I have always been intrigued by what is emerging from the middle east in the architectual world. Those houses and apartments(?) you supplied appeal to me very much, we have studied this style in some of my classes. The skyscrapers due well to incorporate the heritage of the Aracbic world into their design despite the fact that many of the larger ones are designed by foreign architects and that is important.

I do believe thought that it is tough to say who is leading the world as far as architectual design, the massive amounts of money certainly helps the middle eastern nations to pay for big name architects and big audacious designs. This is why I its hard to simply say Arabic architecture is leading the world because many of it is designed by foreigners, so I believe it is better to look at individual architects.

Here is some of my favorite stuff from the middle east

I personally really like asian architecture, especially the simplistic and monolithic designs we see in their taller designs

for example in Singapore.

^^
You are ineed correct. With the billions of dollars that the tycoons in Dubai are sitting on they do pay up big time for top architects from Japan, Denmark, the US and so forth. Since you study art/architecture I would like to know what you favorite type of architecture is. Mine is Expressionist Modern.

Here are some of my favorite buildings:

Has Haus

Casa Mila

Expressionist Modern

Air Force Academy Chapel

Einstein Tower

Weisman Art Museum

Well as far modern design goes I also like some of the things coming from expressionism, but I also like the deconstructivist style. I also really enjoy more classic architecture such as Art Nouveau, Bauhaus (or International) and Baroque

Deconstuctivism:

Some of my favourites.

Plaza Centenario

Treasury Building

Malayan Bank

Tokyo City Hall

Telekom

DG bank
