Too bad in the US we have nothing of the sort. In California most of the cars just have 7 alphanumeric digits while in states like Washington it's 3 alphanumeric digits then dash "-" and then another 3 alphanumeric digits...ex 747-253.

Have you been to England? I never understood their license plate system.

Two people who live in London for example have this and this license plate: XFG783 and DER230. Makes no sense to me.

That's why people can do business selling plates... And no, we can't choose our alphabets nor numbers.

As for us, well Chris is right, 8 is a lucky number. My dad has 9918 and 718 for his cars.

We got them cheap though, just about US450...

Our Mayor (Prime Minister, we call him that here) drives a conspicuous S350... Though I'm not quite sure if he has others for non-official events.

License plates are expensive in Singapore!

The solution? Just don't get one.

James, I believe the Chinese and Japanese view the number "4" as bad luck, is this true?

I think the British have a system where you can tell when the car was registered instead of where - unless you have a personalized plate that is.

Here in Finland, we used to have a system where the first letter on the plate would tell which province the car was registered in, but it was deemed unnecessary and since the early 1990's the plates are just random letters and numbers (typically 3 letters - 3 numbers).

Since we live in Greece, it was payed by tax money

Actually i am sure, because it was passed to the next major a month ago.

Yes, the number 4 is bad luck as it sounds like "death" in Cantonese as well as in Mandarin. Also, having X as the last alphabet of the number plate is also bad luck, as it kinda means reversing your fortunes. Our last alphabet is X but we don't really care.

He's got good taste. Lancia Kappa's are gorgeous!

I don't think I'd trade that in for a Volvo, even though the Volvo will probably be more reliable!
