It's Audis first REAL Coupé model in such long time. And it's the car that will be so important in their model program. The one they have been missing in their lineup. This will fill the gap, and also take on the CLK and the other Coupés.

I do not agree.

Q7 was much more important, so will be Q5, and A1 as well - all sales wise. Not to mention R8 - important for the Audi's brand image. And do not forget the new Mk of Audi most important model: the A4.

A5 is just another model to fill the niche Audi was not present till now. Won't be so important for Audi image wise like eg TT & R8 are, nor important sales wise like A4, A6, Q7, Q5 & A1.

Mind that mid-size coupe is not a totally new to Audi - they produced the last one in 1996 (Audi 80 based B3, Type 89, Audi Coupé).

Never thought about it like that, but I agree this is filling a major voyed in Audi's line-up.

The truth is that almost every new car out there looks good from a bird eyes view. I think audi are getting ahead of themselves with all these teaser they spit out before launching a new model.

The A5 is a VERY important model for Audi:

1- It's the first model to feature the new MLP architecture , the comparison tests will show if Audi will be able to beat BMW in driving dynamics as the TT and A8 have done and in a lesser extend the A3/S3.
2- It competes in a segment where the sales are not significant but it will boost the image of Audi as a car maker with exciting/must have models (look how TT has helped Audi's image).
3- It will be the first model to introduce a new design direction with smaller short overhangs , distinctive details ect. that will be more emotional than before.

I would say the A5 does have alot of signifigance. Audi is a premium brand and the supreme symbol of a premium brand is a 2+2 coupe. MB has the CLK and CL, BMW the 3er coupe and the 6, while Audi at the moment doesn't have one at all.

What is most important is that this is the car that will further cement Audi's reputation as a maker of permium automobiles with superb driving dynamics, a phrase that has not been associated with Audi ever, up until recently after the R8. However, the A5 is more accesible to the majority of driving enthusiast and those that want an automobile with elegant design and an emotional driver connection than it's more expensive, limited production big brother. Beyond that this car will also thrust Audi right in front of BMW in terms of competitiveness from a driving dynamics standpoint as well. The A5 is a new technical generation of Audi that the world has not seen.
