Thanks Notic...Used my 70-300mm @ 300mm. Shot 1/800 @ f/8, ISO 200. He was on a fence and when I got close he took off...I had never shot a bird in flight so quickly set the camera and shot three shots. This one was the sharpest. I should have set the camera for multiple exposures and cranked off a set of 5 or so but was panicked trying to frame him.
Here he is just prior to taking off looking right at me...
