Knowing what I know now about Mr. Fontana's claims, I would still call Schumacher the greatest driver ever. So what if he and his team bend the rules? Senna was no saint either. People who criticize Schumacher's driving should also extend their criticism to Senna. Since he died on the track, he is put on an immortal level, but he demonstrated the same type of behaviour.
F1 is a stressful sport. Whenever you have guys driving so close to each other and at such speed, poor decisions occur. When there is such huge amounts of money involved, participants do desperate things to get an advantage. Perhaps money in sport has corrupted competition. Perhaps money has turned sport into businesses - not particularly good ones, but a business nonetheless. |
