Re: Diesel 6 series rumors/speculations.

635d with 286HP ... debut with 6er facelift (very minor changes) in Fall 2007.

It will target European markets mainly - thus I6 diesel, not V8.

Well Eni says the 5er will have the 3.0 turbo, so the er will 100% have that engine too then...at least in the states.

No, I would never buy the same car two times in a row, regardless of the engine (ok, M6 doesn't count ) That's just boring. I need a whole different model line.

But, if I had to choose now between a 645d and 650i, I would still take the 650i. I like driving gasoline much more, since I like to rev up the engine and such. You can play much more with that engine.

However, 700 Nm of torque (or was is 800, let me check) is something not to diss with

Max. output 329.5 PS (325.0 bhp) (242.4 kW)
@3800 rpm
Max. torque 700.0 Nm (516 lbft) (71.4 kgm)
@1900 rpm

To my knowledge, the 4.5 V8 has 750 Nm max torque.

Re: Diesel 6 series rumors/speculations.

Ofcourse torque porkers do have their ups and downs.

The fancy sequentials and dual clutches can't stand that amount of torque (well the Ricardo twin in the Veyron could, but it costs more than an M6 if I'm not mistaking).
So that means good bye super fast upshifts (and downshifts in SMG's case).
Also it can't be geared as low as the V10.

So there is a price to pay for the torque.

BMW 635d

A BMW 6-series with a twin-turbo diesel engine? I like the sound of that...

So do we. CAR Online has learned that BMW will squeeze its mightily impressive twin-turbo diesel into the 6-series later this year. It's the same engine we've come to love in the 5-series - and with a stonking 413lb ft of torque, it's got more muscle than the M6 range-topper.

We won't know more details until the car is announced formally later in the year, but with the 272bhp 3.0-litre diesel six-pot under the bonnet, it's not going to be slow. The 535d donor car can tear to 60mph in 6.5sec and feels even quicker in the mid-range.

It should be the perfect combination for a GT-style coupe, like the 6-series. The new engine will be launched as part of a mid-life shake-up for the Six.

Old news.

PS: coming in the Fall - with the facelift. Yet with 286PS, not 272!
