![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Autocar's 997TT vs. Gallardo vs. BMW M6 vs.F430 group test from m5board.com, no scans or accelerationnumbers presented. Just the conclusion. This is what Steve Sutcliffe (known for favouring Porsche) said after testing the above three cars: "A thought occurred as I climbed back into 'my' long term BMW M6 after two days spent driving the 911 Turbo and its rivals. It was this: why does the car world think 80 grand is too much for an M6 when these three cars cost over 100k each yet none of them are an faster in a straight line where it counts, or more civilised on a motorway, or anywhere near as well equipped, or as spacious, or as economical? It's the difference, largely, in brand expectation. People are prepared to pay more for a Ferrari, Lamborghini or Porsche than they are for a BMW, and that's fair enough. A £15 Casio watch tells the time, as does a £15,000 Rolex Daytona etc... But there comes a point when you think, hang on, who's right here? And the biggest surprise of all is that, all in all, I think I prefer the M6 to the 911 Turbo, money no object. In the real world it's just as fast (faster after a one-mile drag race, in fact, as we discovered on the runway at London City Airport recently) and for most of the time suits more of my needs, more of the time. In that light, 80 grand almost seems like a bargain. And £65k for an M5 becomes the sale of the century. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Autocar's 997TT vs. Gallardo vs. F430 group test He loves his car, but lets be realistic, the M6 goes for over $105K here in the US, and obviously people are paying a premium too. Nontheless a great car the M6. Where is the 997TT Vs. Gallardo Vs.F430 write up? He doesnt even talk about it in that quote, in fact he talks about the M6 which isnt even in the comparo... Andreas, you feeling okay today? ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Autocar's 997TT vs. Gallardo vs. F430 group test You know, in the spirit of this thread, im going to start a similar thread in the sound and vision section regarding a write up comparison of the Zonda, a Fountain Race boat, and a Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle. I will only post my interpretation of the ending with absolutley no information on the vehicles used in the comparo, in fact, i will discuss how the VW Beetle TDI actually gets the best gas mileage from the entire group. Im a go work on that right now!!! Thanks Andreas, you and your witty writing friend are an inspiration too me. LOL! ![]() |
