You hit the nail right on the head. Negative, aggressive campaigning looks awful when it is employed by a woman that 50% of the country already dislikes. Having said that, I was a big Maggie Thatcher fan, but I think she has stronger political principles than Hillary.

I think America is more ready to give a black man a chance to be president than a woman. I wrote "a chance" because I am not so sure where white men will vote in November. Men don't often become the swing vote.

Obama is winning white men by 20 percentage points, but he was not doing nearly as well before Edwards dropped. In South Carolina, Obama only got 20% of the white vote. In a general election, I wonder if white men will vote for a war hero and Hanoi Hilton resident (and fellow white man) or a very liberal black senator. I think that voting group decides the election.

Of course, if I uttered that last line on the not-so-objective cable networks, I would be castrated as arguing against change, stirring up identity politics and - well, you know the rest.
