Oscar winner Marion Cotillard is set for a massive popularity plunge in the US with the revelation that she believes the September 11 attacks were set up by the American government.
The French Best Actress winner also has serious doubts the 1969 moon landings ever happened.
Cotillard, who won the Oscar for her role in La Vie En Rose, made the comments on a French television program a year ago, but they were largely ignored until resurfacing on magazine website Marianne2 at the weekend.
"I think we’re lied to about a number of things," Cotillard said. "We see other towers of the same kind being hit by planes — do they [collapse]?"
"There was a tower, I believe it was in Spain, which burnt for 24 hours. It never collapsed. None of these towers collapsed. And there [on September 11] in a few minutes, the whole thing collapsed."
Cotillard, 32, described the towers as a "money-sucker" that would have been more costly to restore than to raze.
"To re-cable all that, to bring up-to-date all the technology, it was a lot more expensive than destroying them," she said.
The Paris-born actor also questioned NASA's moon landings, saying she didn’t believe all of what had been portrayed in the media.
"I saw plenty of documentaries on it, and I really wondered," Cotillard said.
"And in any case, I don't believe all they tell me, that's for sure."
Cotillard, a former advocate for Greenpeace, has long been outspoken on environmental causes but her views were not widely publicised before her Oscar win.
